Reuters reports that Spike Lee is backing Senator Obama for President of the United States. Typically speaking we don't care what Spike Lee (or any other racist, Black or White) has to say but this time Mr. Lee may be helping Senator McCain without even trying.

It seems that Mr. Lee, in his "endorsement" of Sen. Obama said, "We need a real Chocolate City." Could he really be that stupid? Does Spike Lee not realize there are many, many white voters who will not vote for Obama simply because of a stupid statement like that from a big mouth bigoted man?

Seriously, you may recall former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin was criticized for racial divisiveness after Katrina for urging residents to rebuild a "chocolate New Orleans." This is the 21st century and you have to be very careful about the things you say. Mr. Lee should have thought about that before he opened his mouth.

Go to a construction site. It doesn't matter where, so long as it is a union job. These union workers are democrats but we can guarantee you there are many white male union construction workers on that site who, if no one is listening, will tell you they aren't voting for that black man.

All Spike Lee did was hurt his own cause, and Sen. Obama's chances, by opening his mouth. Maybe the McCain campaign should send Spike a thank you.
