California Supreme Court to take up same sex marriage
Tomorrow the California Supreme Court is holding a hearing on the constitutionality of the state law defining marriage as the union of a man and a woman. They are going to give the issue three hours of their time.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, "Supporters of same-sex marriage invoke the state's commitment to equality regardless of gender or sexual orientation, the needs of the children of gay and lesbian couples, the persistence of societal discrimination, and legal rights such as freedom of expression, association and privacy."
What troubles us is "the needs of the children of gay and lesbian couples." What children? It's not even possible for two men or two women to have a child. We learned that in 5th grade science class. It takes a male and a female to have babies.
Sure, one may argue that one partner in a same-sex relationship may have had children with a member of the opposite sex and that part of the argument may be true but if the same-sex couple truly cares about the child they will not want the child to be living with a gay couple. Think of the abuse this child will have to deal with growing up. The teasing and bullying in the school yard. How is it fair for a gay or lesbian couple to put a child through that kind of abuse? It isn't!
We could go on and on about why gay marriage is wrong but will not bother. It's pointless to do so when the gay community will harp about how they are minorities and such, then we'd have to argue about how sexual orientation doesn't count as a minority.
So rather than ruin a perfectly sunny Monday we'll just we sincerely hope California's Supreme Court rules in favor of common sense and denies gays the right to marry.
